Eduroam was pioneered by the GÉANT research and education networking community in Europe. The GÉANT task force on mobility and network middleware – TF-MNM – and the GÉANT (GN4-2) Project work together and with relevant industry and standardisation groups to find and share solutions related to eduroam technology and security. The registered trademark for eduroam® in Europe is held by the GÉANT organisation, which also helps to promote the deployment of the service.
The latest statistics for the eduroam service show yet more growth in 2017 with a 18% Increase in international authentications and a 21% increase in national authentications. 85 countries now take part in eduroam around the world with Tajikistan being the latest country to join the eduroam family.
Having started in Europe, eduroam has rapidly expanded throughout the research and education community and is now available in nearly 90 territories worldwide and emerging pilot locations. Please note: eduroam in pilot territories may be limited to a small number of locations and may have other restrictions.
